Customers often ask: “Is it really that easy to fit shutters? Can I fit them myself?” I reply: “Yes! Fitting shutters to a window is as easy as hanging a picture frame!” Sam from www.opennshut.co.uk explains how easy it is...
The shutters for a single window arrive in two boxes. One contains the shutters and the other box contains the outer frame, into which the ready-hinged shutters easily slot into position.
If you have ordered shutters for more than one window, at www.opennshut.co.uk we will arrange for your boxes to be labelled with the names of your rooms or windows that you have given us.
First, you assemble the outer frame. This requires no brute force or macho effort, not even a hammer. It just takes the pressure of a strong thumb to push-in each of the four plastic interconnecting keys which secure the corners of the frame. Just lay the frame out on the floor in front of your window, and push in the keys and your frame is made.
Next, fit the ready-hinged shutters inside the frame. Simply match-up each hinge to their respective other half and slide in the connecting-pins through the hinges to connect the shutter and frame together. The heads on top of the hinge pins unscrew to make putting them in or taking them out easy even once the shutter is fitted in place.
That’s the shutters in position. All ready to neatly open and close (or should I say opennshut!) within their frame, before you have even fitted them to the window. It couldn’t be easier!
All that’s left is to screw the frame into position. This is equally as straight-forward. Remove the wooden insert which covers the pre-drilled holes around the edge of the frame. Lift up the whole unit of ‘fitted shutters and frame’ onto the window-sill and wedge it into position with the plastic wedges supplied.
Note: The wedges provide a convenient way to secure the frame ‘hands-free’ while you check and adjust the surrounding clearance gap (known as the ‘shadow gap’), easily correcting any uneven spacing between the frame and window recess, prior to screwing the frame into it’s final position.
Once happy with the position, simply use the screws supplied to screw the shutter frame to the window, through the pre-drilled holes and then replace the wooden insert down the middle of the frame to hide the screws, for a beautiful, professional appearance. The hinges are adjustable, if slight adjustments are required.
That’s it! Job done!... That is how easy it is to fit shutters!
