Plastic Shutters For The Kitchen and Bathroom

Information provided by www.opennshut.co.uk
The UK's largest online showroom for shutters and blinds, packed with helpful information and expert advice.

www.opennshut.co.uk have expanded the choice of products available to our customers to include a hard-wearing, wipe-cleanable, plastic shutter.  We are often asked for waterproof shutters, and while not specifically waterproof, these shutters are designed to be far more durable than their MDF and wooden counterparts.

Are they the same as other shutters?

The ABS or plastic shutters have a great quality finish, and look and fit the same as the other plantation shutters www.opennshut.co.uk  provide.  This means that we can now offer our customers shutters that are ideal for every room in the home, to give a consistent look for the entire house.  However, depending on where you are fitting them and what the window reveal contains, you may need to allow a little more for the shadow gap to ensure the shutters clear tiles if your reveal is part tiled.  Sam would recommend that you allow the same shadow gap size around the entire shutter for an even look once the shutter is fitted, so if allowing a little more clearance at the sides you may also need to do so at the top and bottom.

The plastic shutters come with a slightly larger side stile, 50mm rather than the usual 40mm.   So if you require other plantation shutters in home to match, you will need to note this on your order form or contact Sam.

Where can I use plastic shutters?

The ABS or plastic shutters are durable and hardwearing, making them suitable for utility or playrooms, as well as bathrooms and kitchens, and for areas where being wipe-cleanable is essential.  They are also ideal for use in hotels, where they may be in subjected to constant use and cleaning.

Are they water-proof shutters?

The shutters are specifically designed to far more durable than traditional shutters, and will not deteriorate as quickly as more traditional window coverings.  While not waterproof, the strong plastic coating ensures that they are more moisture-resistant than traditional shutters.

What are the plastic shutters made of?

The shutters have a timber core, coated in ABS plastic.  The plastic coating is the same plastic as used in a range of industrial, commercial and home based products, such as telephone handsets, computer cases, safety equipment and even toys.  ABS stands for ‘Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene’, which is a commonly used thermoplastic that has good temperature resistance and provides a high quality surface finish to the shutter.

Are the plastic shutters durable and easy to clean?

The ABS plastic is designed to withstand constant use, and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.  The wooden core of the shutter provides it with strength, making them ideal for a range of uses.

Tiled Window Reveals?

You can customise your shutter frame by cutting out the side of it to match the depth the tiles protrude.  While this does add additional cost, it does look extremely smart.  Ask Sam for more information.
