Our unique Blackout Shutters provide almost ‘complete blackout’ as they cleverly incorporate a stylish white coloured ‘blackout blind’ fitted neatly behind the louvres – a double barrier against light!
A perfect way to a good nights sleep while maintaining a good looking window dressing.
The interlocking design of the shutter edges, plus perfectly fitting louvres, along with a blackout blind all contribute to reduce the amount of light being transmitted into the room.
The blind is ordered separately from the blind section. It can also be ordered at a later date as long as you order the medium frame.

These have a customised outer frame that is 60mm deep on the Standard and 64mm deep on the Elite or hardwood shutter. This provides a flat inner section of frame 33mm wide into which the blackout blind can be fitted. The frame and blind can be used with battens, if handles protrude from your window.
If you are using Tposts, you can either fit the blinds within each tpost section or order battens so you can fit the blind behind the tpost vertical uprights. This provides the quick option of the blind with one control and keeps costs down.
You will need to request the ‘Medium blackout frame’ to allow room for the blinds to be fitted to the top section of the frame. Request this via the ‘notes’ box on the order form.
Blinds
When ordering the blind you will need to make the following deductions:
The blinds used are Luxaflex Duette blackout blinds.
The most popular colour is white ref: code 4207.
(IMPORTANT - Make the deductions from the frame size not the window recess size)
Do I really need blackout?
If you work during the night and sleep during the day, or have a child’s nursery room requiring total darkness, fitting blackout blinds within the shutter frame will provide a neat and effective way of blocking out the light.
The new frame design allows this neat stacking style blind to be fitted inside the frame away from your window handles.
Standard blackout blinds can look ugly, with little colour choice and they are either open or shut, but by fitting the blind inside to create blackout shutters you maintain the stylish look during the day and at night benefit from the blackout blind.
The interlocking frame side stiles also overlap each other by 4.8mm to help reduce the light seeping into the room.
Measuring for a blackout blind
No extra measuring is required for blackout blinds, just follow the measuring guide as the blind sizes are calculated from the frame dimensions.
Easy to fit
Fit as per the shutter instructions, then follow the instructions for fitting the blind supplied in the box. The blind simply clips into several top brackets screwed to the inside edge of the frame - just a 5 minute job.
Using an existing blackout blind
If you can provide the sizes of your blind Sam can design a way to incorporate your blind with your new shutter frame, and it can often be fitted behind the frame on a custom batten to create blackout shutters.
