Horizontal rail

Easy reading

Horizontal dividing rail

A horizontal middle rail dividing the louvre blades in half on louvered shutters allows the louvre blades to be operated independently either side of that middle rail. Available for all types including Standard and Elite.

Top opening

If you require the top opening style, which splits in half like a stable door, then enter the height measurement of the bottom set of shutter panels in the dividing rail box and select ‘yes’ for top opening on the order form.

Enter measurements for both options in the Dividing rail box. .

Technical stuff

Horizontal dividing rail

Measure vertically from the window sill up to the middle point where you would like a horizontal rail.
If the window has a horizontal rail, I would recommend lining-up the horizontal dividing rail with the rail of the window, so that the window rail is hidden behind the dividing rail.

Any shutter doors over 1800mm tall will require a dividing rail for strength, if you choose not to have a rail on a door over this height it will not be guaranteed.

Top opening

Measure vertically from the window sill up to the top point where you would like the shutter doors to open in the middle.

If the window has a horizontal rail, I would recommend lining-up the bottom set of doors to the highest point on the window rail so that the window rail does not show above the lower doors when the top half are open.

Sams tips

Horizontal dividing rail

I suggest the shutter design is based on the layout of the window and the room in which they are to be fitted. If the window does not have a horizontal rail you need not include one unless you wish to do so or your window is over 1800mm tall.

Examples:

Bathroom: Privacy, air flow and light are all important factors in this room. Firstly, my recommendation would be the ‘Standard’ shutter due to its water-resistant qualities. Horizontal middle rails and top half opening will be an advantage in this room.

Kitchens: Half-height is popular in kitchens where light and the view are important, as is the inclusion of a middle rail to allow privacy for the lower part of the window. ‘Standard’ is also well suited in the kitchen.

Bedrooms: Privacy and style is required here. Matching your window features is important, using a middle rail allows you to adjust the louvers in each section separately providing privacy.

Sitting rooms: Style, good looks and privacy. One of the most important rooms in your house so consider entertainment, relaxing and blocking the light from your TV screen! If your window is a suitable shape then top half opening will give you all the options, or the use of a middle rail to adjust light can be helpful.

Advice:
Covering the whole of your window with louvered shutters will save you time and money on trying to add extra sections at a later date. Matching all windows as seen from the front of your house adds a fresh look. Another reason most customers choose white, since all will match from the outside, yet each room can retain its individual décor inside.
