ITV 60 Minute Makeover: Designer�s choice of DIY shutters

ITV 60 Minute Makeover Show requested my help with a makeover in Huddersfield. I contacted Simon, the homeowner whose property was the subject of this episode. He uploaded some digital photos on my www.opennshut.co.uk website in the easy to use �My Account' section available after registering on the website. These allowed me to view his window and patio door as if I were standing in the room, avoiding the inconvenience to him of arranging a suitable visit. I could clearly see what shutter style would best suit.

Design & Style: Knowing the TV designer John Amabile wanted a modern look, for the window I chose 3 full height shutters without a horizontal rail, fitted to battens to space the shutters away from the window handles. For the Patio doors, 4 shutters, folding 2 left and 2 right, their height requiring a horizontal rail for strength. I chose the Elite shutters in Basswood to keep the weight down, with medium size louvres (64mm), finished in the most popular colour of silk white, to match the window colour.

Measuring over the phone: I advised Simon over the phone, matching his window layout and patio door design. Impressed with the customer-friendly website and practical expert advice he quickly gained the confidence to measure accurately, avoiding the need for a visit, and ensuring a speedy order. Trusting in my online DIY service, I attended on the day of filming, my 5th time for the ITV 60 Minute Makeover show, easily fitting the shutters within the 60 minutes show time.

Once again, my shutters were the designer John Amabile�s favourite part of his makeover. The show's presenter was Terri Dwyer from Hollyoaks, Grange Hill and The Game, who took over from Claire Sweeney for this series. Also on set was Craig Phillips, winner of Big Brother 2000 who was very interested in the shutters and said he would like shutters for his customers.

ITV�s DIY choice: The ITV 60 Minute Makeover shows favour interior shutters from www.opennshut.co.uk due to speed the shutters can be put together and fitted. It proves to viewers that it really is very easy to fit DIY shutters. The benefit of pre-drilled holes, slot-in hinges, finger-push corner connectors and 4-sided frames, making the whole thing almost as easy as hanging a picture frame!

LETTER: INVITATION FROM ITV 60 MINUTE MAKEOVER

Thanks again for everything, here�s some more details about the programme as promised.

60 Minute Makeover is now in its fifth series ITV1, It is presented by Terri Dwyer, with a professional designer and a team of handymen and women who transform homes across the UK. We surprise some of the most deserving people in the country who have been nominated by friends or family members because they have overcome illness or bereavement, do a lot for charity or for their neighbours, or are deserving for some other reason. We create stylish transformations using quality furniture, wall coverings, soft furnishes and accessories, all in just 60 minutes.

We have been commissioned to make a further 70 episodes for ITV1 daytime this year. The last series shown in January 2007 was extremely popular with audiences and scored particularly highly with young women and housewives with children (the show reached 39% of housewives with children), reaching up to 21% of the available audience � an average of well over one million viewers per episode � generally increasing the audience from the ITV lunchtime news by an extra 16%.

Our programme website www.itv.com/60mm - displays information about the products featured in the programmes and shows the quality of our transformations. 1.3 million pages were viewed [between January and March 2007]

We are able to provide website credits and links from our website for suppliers. Any products/services featured will need to be available for viewers who may be interested in purchasing, as we feature the products on-screen when our presenter and designer discuss them. They give viewers tips and information on everything from prices to where they can buy the product � amid the frantic mayhem of a 60 minute makeover of course. Other supplier credits and viewer information may include straps or �with thanks to� end credits depending on the nature of the item.

We will be filming from the middle of April to October 07 and at present the shows are scheduled to be aired in two tranches from September and then from January 2008.

5th Appearance on ITV 60 Minute Makeover Show

2007 sees Sam interviewed during the 5th appearance of www.opennshut.co.uk products on the ever popular ITV 60 Minute Makeover show.

This episode is being recorded in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, mid May with the designer John Amabile and presenter Terri Dwyer. It is expected to be aired on UK TV later this year.

Photographs will be added to our showroom in due course.

Hello Sam

I am a Researcher working on our second series for Channel 5 of the 'Hotel Inspector' and I have had your details passed on to me by a lady called Annette Simpkins.

Our first series was a really big hit with ch 5 so we want this series to be bigger and better again.

This series has been estimated to be watched by about 2 million viewers and the Channel 5 website for our first series had around 10,000 hits each day. I was wondering if Open n Shut would like to donate to our York programme a set of blinds or shutters. These will obviously feature largely in our bedroom as it will be our main changing point for the room.
