This is the first time opennshut.co.uk have worked alongside the BBC DIY SOS team. Although the transformation of the home in Gosport started on Monday, Sam and Brendan finished fitting the interior wood shutters Thursday night, when the rest of the team stopped for dinner. With the makeover not quite finished, Sam came back on the Friday night just before the reveal to take some photos of the finished makeover and the team.
The interior wood shutters were fitted onto a square bay with UPVC double glazed windows. They were designed to match the existing design of the front windows split into 4 sections containing, a horizontal rail and the side windows without a rail to match the full height panes of glass.
Battens were needed first to space the louvres away from the handles allowing the shutter frame to be fitted directly onto the battens. The centre panels open 2 folding left and 2 folding right and the side panels open to the left and right on each side.
The single window at the back of the lounge also required battens and was split into 2 shutter panels opening one left and one right with a middle rail.
Elite was the chosen material used because of the size of the window and four large panels folding left and right would be heavy, along with Medium (64mm) louvre blades finished in Silk white. Elite is light in weight but strong so very suitable for these windows.
Using white interior wood shutters in your home will add style and make the room feel larger, they finish the room off a treat and you can create the same look very easily yourself. Try uploading photos into your account for expert advice on design and measuring from Sam.
