BATTENS
You might not need battens!!
Battens are ordered as an extra, and in the past have been used to space a shutter frame away from any window handles. There are now some alternative fitting options which mean you don’t need to use battens. The first is the D1 fixings that allow you fit sideways in front of any handles or trim, the second are the low profile handles, so check out these options first before deciding to use battens.
The battens are fitted around the inside of the window reveal or recess, to create a flat wooden subframe you can attach the shutter frame too. This subframe ensures the louvres miss any large handles, plastic trim or obstacles when they are tilted and allows you leave a shadow gap rather than side fixing. Battens are supplied as an extra to the shutter frame, so you need to cut them to length and fit them separately to the frames. They can be ordered in a different colour to the shutter, but as standard , hey will be coloured to match your shutter order.
Batten infills can be used to customise your fitting. Generally infills are not required, but there are a few standard infills you can order. Angled bays sometimes require special shapes or infills due the angled side windows and trim found around the bays. Battens can be cut around air vents or tiles allowing you to fix the shutter frames onto the battens.
