There are a range of styles or design options for interior window shutters. When considering what you would prefer it is also worth considering what will work best for your lifestyle as well as visually in your room.
You should also plan to match your window design, as this usually looks best and means that there are no shadows from horizontal or vertical dividing rails in the window, looks best from in and outside, and maximises light.
Full height interior window shutters
These are the most popular design, as they are panels that run the full height of the window. They may or may not include a rail if you have horizontal bars dividing your window or if they are tall windows for which a rail is required to add strength.
Half-height or café style
These are great if you have a view or perhaps need privacy. The shutter panels will start on the window sill and can usually stop at the middle point of the window or to match any horizontal dividing rails in the window. Café shutters look particularly good on sash windows.
Top opening or Tier on Tier
Like a stable door, these are split in half horizontally and both top and bottom sections open. This tier on tier design is best suited to windows that are taller than they are wide.
Track interior window shutters
Ideal for very wide large openings such as patio or French doors, or for use as room dividers, track shutters systems are available so that the panels will fold into the room, or as a sliding bypass system.
Shaped windows
Round, arched, triangular, porthole or a range of other window shapes can be matched. Interior wooden shutters look particularly effective on shaped windows, as they maximise the beauty of an unusual feature.
Remote control
For those who have lots of shutter louvres to adjust, or if you just want total control from your sofa or have a window that’s difficult to get to then remote control shutters are ideal. You can control the louvre action from one small remote handset that has 8 preset louvre positions.
Blackout interior window shutters
Great to help you sleep if you need darkness to ensure a good night (or day of you work shifts) sleep. They are also good in a child’s room to help create the right environment even if it’s early. The blackout interior shutter incorporates a hidden blackout blind to increase the level of darkness in your room.
