Plastic or vinyl shutters are a lightweight plastic shutter that can be fitted onto doors or windows, to help you decide which type of shutter will suit your windows or home, take a look at the some of the benefits of using plastic or watch a video on youtube showing some top opening Luxaflex plastic shutters.
Insulation
These plastic shutters are hollow in construction, the outer frames, the side stiles, top and bottom rails and the louvre blades are all extruded and hollow. This makes them extremely good for heat insulation, not only do the shutters form another air gap between the back of the shutter and the window they also trap air within the shutter themselves. The frame and shutter design ensure a tight closure that helps insulate your room even more.
Weight
With the hollow construction mentioned above, these plastic vinyl shutters are much lighter than MDF or wooden shutters. This means they can easily be fitted on doors or large windows without sagging. A light shutter will not put as much pressure on the hinges, frame or fixings so it is an advantage when looking for a suitable shutter type.
Cost
The build quality, design and benefits that vinyl plastic shutters can offer is excellent, just because they are made from plastic does not mean they are a cheap shutter. Remember, plastic shutters have a 25 year guarantee, 5 x more than wooden shutters. They are in a similar price bracket to the Standard Lite/Standard Plus range of shutters, not as cheap as the MDF shutters, but sitting middle of the range.
Durability
Luxaflex vinyl shutters are extremely durable, they can bumped, dropped and leaned against and still look great. The tough vinyl design and construction ensures they can withstand a lot, all of the parts are plastic/vinyl apart from the hinges and each part can easily be replaced. If needed, the whole shutter panel can be dismantled and re-assembled with new parts. Perhaps you run a hotel, B&B or nursery? These vinyl shutters will be an ideal window covering solution for you.
Design
The outer frame design can be adapted to allow the shutters to be fitted inside or outside a window recess. All the frames are pre-mitred at the corners and easily clip together to form the main outer frame. The frame design ensures the shutter panel fits neatly within it and provides small channels for the ball catches in the shutters to glide along. The louvre blades within the panels are elliptical so they close tightly together, they can be adjusted up and down and can be left at different angles. When the shutter panels are closed within the frame they form a fairly tight seal keeping light, noise and heat behind the shutters. The small roller ball catches found at the top and bottom of the panels locate in the small groove in the frame keeping the shutters tightly closed.
