‘A survey is the visit we make to your home so we can show you samples, offer advice and measure up for plantation shutters’.
When seeking professionally fitted wood shutters it is important to get the right advice from a professional who is able to answer your questions knowledgeably. This will help you to make the right decisions to get the look you want and a shutter that is suitable for your window. Your surveyor/fitter will have a range of samples in different materials and colours so that you can select one that is suitable for your room, window and the design you have chosen. Throughout this section of the website you can find advice on the type of shutters and designs available that might suit your window. The fitter will be happy to show or tell you about their previous work and experience of fitting. We only work with fitters who are experienced shutter fitters, have fitted a variety of shaped and specialist windows, as well as simple windows, and who will fit professionally to a high standard. If you have a question about shutters that you would like to ask before you request a survey, feel free to email, check out theFAQ section or call Sam direct on 0844 858 4025.
Pre-survey
Once you have requested a home visit, we will arrange for an experienced local fitter to contact you. We have fitters who cover London and surrounding areas like Hertfordshire, Essex, Bishop Stortford shutters, Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey. Your local fitter will make contact by telephone or email to understand your requirements. During that call your fitter will ask you for your window sizes, if they were not on your initial request, so that they can provide you with an initial estimate for window shutters. If you are happy with this your fitter will then book a convenient time to visit and complete a detailed survey. It will help your fitter if you clear the window area of any obstructions and make sure that any window coverings can be lifted or pulled back out of the way prior to the start of the survey, so that the fitter can easily access the window recess to measure. If you have a bay, shaped or a number of windows it may take some time for your fitter to take all the measurements required, please ensure you allow plenty of time for the survey.
During the Survey
At your survey the fitter will offer expert advice and work with you to agree the best design/style and layout for your windows. Feel free to ask about their experience of fitting, and previous work they have undertaken or testimonials. During your survey you will be able to view a selection of shutter samples, colours, louvre blade sizes and finishes. Currently, the Standard Plus and Elite Plus shutters are the most popular with our fitted customers and fitters. You can find more information on these types of shutters within this section of the website. Detailed measurements will be taken of your windows to ensure the shutters you select fit perfectly. Horizontal and vertical measurements are taken from several places across each window as few windows are exactly square. Diagonal sizes and levels are checked, laser levels and templating are used where necessary. When we fit, we allow for a small clearance gap between the shutter frame and recess, called a shadow gap. This allows for any bumps or uneven recess surfaces.
Quote & ordering
Once measured, your fitter will provide you with a full and detailed quote. Prices can be listed individually and prices can be provided for different shutter types depending on your budget. You can place your order during your survey directly with your fitter. Shutters are made to measure and manufacturing starts very quickly after ordering, so ensure you are happy with all the details prior to ordering as amendments may not be possible once the order has been sent to the workshop.
Payment is required in full to order and can be made by cheque, card or BACS. Your fitter will also book your fitting date and time, as the fitter who completes your survey will also return to fit.
